Care Styling’s training program is divided into 3 tiers:
Building Relationships with Clients:
This tier addresses beauticians’ relationship-building strengths and how they bring these into various levels of beautician-client relationships. Beauticians also practice building relationships through small talk conversation strategies.
- Gain a stronger awareness of their individual relationship-building strengths
- Identify the levels of beautician-client relationships
- Identify boundaries at each relationship level
- Reflect on the choices they can make when navigating client relationships
- Apply small talk conversation skills that build client relationships
Supportive Conversations:
This tier adds to beauticians’ abilities to respond to their clients as they build relationships. Beauticians practice the supportive conversation skills of listening with empathy while responding to their own emotions.
- Identify the importance of recognizing their own emotions while in supportive conversations
- Identify how to respond to their emotions in a way that builds relationships while taking their own needs into account
- Listen to clients with empathy in supportive conversations
- Assess their own abilities to respond to their emotions and listen with empathy
Supports for Clients & Ourselves:
This tier addresses internal and external supports available to clients and beauticians. Beauticians practice the supportive conversation skills of affirmation (showing clients their internal strengths) and encouraging external supports as needed. Beauticians also build their own internal strengths and discover other supports available to them to keep them ready to build relationships.
- Give genuine and effective affirmations to clients
- Determine when and how to encourage clients to seek further supports
- Be aware of unhelpful thought patterns and know how to address them
- Seek support from and give support to co-workers after challenging client interactions
- Identify further supports beauticians can seek out to work through challenging situations.
Each of the 3 tiers will be taught in the context of operating in a hair salon, barbershop or spa and the related culture, expectations, and
restrictions of such an environment.
